Is it okay to take any sort of drugs when you are in Scientology?
Except for antibiotics or other medical drugs prescribed by a physician, no. All other drugs including recreational street drugs and psychiatric mind-altering drugs, are forbidden.
If a person has a medical or dental condition requiring treatment that includes taking some medical drug other than antibiotics, they should inform the appropriate staff member and consult their doctor or dentist.
Drugs are usually taken to escape from unwanted emotions, pains or sensations. In Scientology, the real reasons for these unwanted conditions are located and handled so that the individual no longer needs or desires drugs. Drugs dull people and make them less aware. Scientology’s aim is to make people brighter and more aware.
Drugs are essentially poisons. The degree they are taken determines the effect. A small amount acts as a stimulant. A greater amount acts as a sedative. A large amount acts as a poison and can kill one dead. Drugs also dull one’s senses and affect the mind and spirit so that the person becomes less in control and more the effect of their environment, a very undesirable state.
Despite the claims of psychiatrists that drugs are a “cure-all,” at best drugs only mask what is really wrong; at worst, drugs cause harm. The real answer is to handle the source of one’s troubles—and that is done through Scientology.
